My favorite lines (s)

Lets begin with....

Have a firm handshake.

Look people in the eye.

Sing in the shower.

Own a great stereo system.

If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.

Keep secrets.

Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.

Always accept an outstretched hand.

Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.

Whistle.

Avoid sarcastic remarks.

Choose your life's mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90 per cent of all your happiness or misery.

Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.

Lend only those books you never care to see again.

Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.

When playing games with children, let them win.

Give people a second chance, but not a third.

Be romantic.

Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.

Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.

Don't allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It's there for your convenience, not the caller's.

Be a good loser.

Be a good winner.

Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.

When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.

Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.

Keep it simple.

Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.

Don't burn bridges. You'll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.

Live your life so that your epitaph could read, 'No Regrets'.

Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the one's you did.

Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.

Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.

Take charge of your attitude. Don't let someone else choose it for you.

Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need only stay a few minutes.

Begin each day with some of your favorite music.

Once in a while, take the scenic route.

Send a lot of Valentine cards. Sign them, 'Someone who thinks you're terrific.'

Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.

Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.

Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.

Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.

Make someone's day by paying the toll for the person in the car behind you.

Become someone's hero.

Marry only for love.

Count your blessings.

Compliment the meal when you're a guest in someone's home.

Wave at the children on a school bus.

Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on your ability to deal with people.

Don't expect life to be fair. BUT GOD ALWAYS IS!!!

We can make our lives better.... Lax :) :)

Into the Kitchen

Thought what to write on my blog.. then this came to my mind.

bamboo Shoot pickles;

We meiteis( Manipuri ) love Soibum ( fermented bamboo shoots ) but yes we just stick to just few preparation style,at present I stay away from home so new ideas always keep clicking when it comes to meitei (Manipuri ) cuisine. I have never tasted Soibum pickles before ..back home, but keep hearing from my colleagues who hail from other part of northeast and that it is a mouth watering item. Here, I will show in few easy steps how we can prepare bamboo shoot pickles with easily available spices. I tried and the result was just great!!!

Here I go..

Ingredients;

Fermented Bamboo Shoot ( Soibum ) - a handful or say a bowl.
Mustard oil- a cup
fenugreek seeds -1 Spoon
Cumin seeds- half a Spoon
Coriander seeds- coarsely grounded- 1 Spoon
Mustard seeds- few grains
Garlic - 7 to 10 cloves (whole)
Dried red chiilies )- as per preference
Salt to taste

Method of preparation:

Soak the bamboo shoots for few hours in salted water for 2 to 3 hours , drain excess water and thinly slice it maintaining its length and keep it aside, heat mustard oil, add mustard seeds, methi seeds, zeera and the grounded coriander seeds and stir for a minute, add the chillies ( coarsely crushed ). Now add the bamboo shoots and sprinkle salt as per requirement and sauté for just a minute or two so as to let the aroma of all the spice blend well with the bamboo shoots. Let it cool for half an hour , use a clean glass jar to store this. Once the jar is filled with the mixture add the fresh garlic cloves( these garlic cloves when pickled for few days tastes unique and tangy with the flavor of the bamboos shoot).

You can eat it instant or keep the jar out in the sunlight for a day or two and pickle it and store it for weeks.

Note:
1)After the preparation is over, one can actually add in raw mustard oil in it for better taste.
2)The more chillies you add the tastier the pickles, you can vary it to your taste though.
.
This pickle goes very well with plain rice meal as a side dish, with fried rice , khichdi / pulao.. the taste is just awesome :)

Enjoy!

Be positive

One of our tutor shared few words on my previous post ' my weak heart' and she found I was quite like her and in at times of negative panicky thoughts, that's when she told me ''our thoughts are very powerful..Lakshmi...it give so much of negativity...to the universe...it leads to something like that so....always be positive no matter what..so don't...and remember..nothing in this world is more powerful than prayer'' I found so much of truth in that and that I will try and overcome the same..Thanks to you Deepa

I then though of reading few notes on 'being positive' and came across a nice quote that read "Most folks are about as happy as they
make up their minds to be." Abraham Lincoln

Another one..
All thought, good and bad, is creative and tends to become a material thing. That is why we must learn to be more positive. Our environment and all the experiences in our life are the result of our habitual and predominant thoughts.

I'm looking forward to a new me a happy me with the above in mind..good luck to me.. :)
